Unlike the deeper blues, soft blue glass was created using copper. Undoubtedly, early soft blue glass occurred naturally due to trace amounts of copper in the sand used to make glass. But soon glassmakers began producing fruit jars, patent medicine bottles, and ink and soda bottles in the soft, pastel hue.
